Melbourne-based business DAANET specialises in designing, supplying, and integrating industrial automation equipment, robust machine safety, and monitoring and control vision systems to Australia and New Zealand’s food and beverage, pharmaceutical, packaging, and additive manufacturing sectors.
For nearly two decades, DAANET has successfully delivered industry-leading projects that have empowered its customers to ensure quality, safety, repeatability, and traceability - ultimately facilitating increased production through advanced automation.
The company has signed as B&R Industrial Automation’s first Authorised Value Provider (AVP) in Australia, as part of B&R’s globally respected Value Provider Program.
B&R, a member of the ABB Group, is a class-leading automation technology manufacturer for machine and factory automation. Their solutions include PLC controls, industrial PCs, motion control, I/O systems, HMI (Human Machine Interface), integrated safety technology, vision systems, intelligent transport systems, delta robots, SCARA Robots and mobile automation solutions. The company is also responsible for machine automation within ABB's Robotics & Factory Automation division.
The B&R Value Provider Program unlocks access for partners to join a global network of automation experts, granting them privileged access to cutting-edge automation solutions, a diverse range of products, and exceptional training and services delivered by B&R experts worldwide.
Since 2009, DAANET has been offering B&R technology to its customers. In addition to providing consulting services, they design and deliver bespoke machine vision solutions that help manufacturers in a range of industries detect defects, ensure consistency, and enhance quality control — all powered by B&R's state-of-the-art vision technology.
Their expertise includes applications such as seal and label inspection, cap presence and placement detection, fill-level checking, foreign object detection, product integrity and shape validation, as well as code and barcode verification.
When asked about the impact B&R technology has been making on the DAANET business over the years Richard Esmaty, Business Manager for DAANET, Australia and New Zealand, said: “B&R's integrated vision and mechatronics systems, like the revolutionary magnetically‑levitated transport system ACOPOS 6D, brings processing, control, and image capture into a single automation solution. This technology has reduced system complexity for our customers while helping them to increase production throughput.”
Always a partnership with a purpose, DAANET is currently collaborating with B&R to design and supply an ACOPOS 6D system for a large pharmaceutical company. The project’s goal is to enhance accuracy, increase productivity, ensure product quality, and reduce equipment footprint within their pharmaceutical processing operations.
Naomi Khoo, B&R Industrial Automation Business Development Manager for Australia & New Zealand, said: “We’re incredibly proud of this solution. The magnetically levitated shuttles of ACOPOS 6D float over electromagnetic motor segments, eliminating friction, wear, and tear. It not only offers pinpoint precision for payloads up to 40kg, but also reduces human handling and generates zero particles, making it ideal for cleanroom environments where this is paramount. Moreover, having no moving parts and enabling seamless product changes with zero downtime offers a major win for operators.”
Richard shared that DAANET is currently designing what he hopes will be the most advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing line in Australia, featuring ACOPOS 6D, ABB’s Codian Delta Robots, and B&R’s PC-based control and vision systems to guide the robot movements and provide their client with greater flexibility.
As part of the qualification process to become a B&R AVP, DAANET engineers travelled to B&R’s global headquarters in Austria to complete extensive training and certification. The course included both theoretical learning and hands-on lab work. The engineers are now proficient in core areas such as motion control, programming, HMI and visualisation development, and product application. The team also acquired in-depth knowledge of B&R’s PLCs, operating systems, and diagnostic tools, and is now equipped to fully troubleshoot and deliver expert support to their customers for the turnkey systems they provide.
