Underground Mining Equipment Order for Cowal Gold

Sandvik has received a major order for underground mining equipment from The Redpath Group to support underground development at Evolution Mining’s Cowal Gold Operations in New South Wales, Australia.

Scope and value of the order
The order, valued at approximately SEK 417 million (AUD 67.4 million), was booked in the fourth quarter of 2025. It covers a fleet of underground load and haul equipment, along with development and production drilling systems, including a Rhino 100 unit. The equipment will be deployed by The Redpath Group as part of its underground mining activities at the Cowal site.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid-2026 and will continue into 2027, aligning with the phased development of underground operations at the mine.

Application at Cowal Gold Operations
Cowal Gold Operations is a long-life gold mining operation located in central western New South Wales. The site includes both open pit and underground mining activities and is one of the region’s key gold-producing assets operated by Evolution Mining.

The underground equipment will support mine development, production drilling, and material handling in conditions that demand high mechanical availability and consistent performance. Underground environments place significant stress on equipment due to confined spaces, abrasive rock conditions, and continuous-duty cycles, making reliability and service support critical.

Equipment and operational performance
The ordered load and haul and drilling systems are designed to support efficient underground mine development while maintaining operational safety. High productivity is achieved through equipment configurations optimized for underground workflows, while durability and uptime are addressed through robust mechanical design and serviceable components.

The inclusion of development and production drilling equipment enables Redpath to support multiple stages of underground mining, from access development to ore extraction, using a coordinated equipment fleet.

Lifecycle support and digital solutions
In addition to the equipment supply, Sandvik Financial Services will provide financing solutions aligned with the fleet acquisition. This supports phased investment and capital planning for large underground projects.

Sandvik will also supply complementary offerings, including digital solutions, rock tools, consumables, raise boring products, and aftermarket services such as parts and components. These services are intended to support ongoing underground operations by improving maintenance planning, reducing downtime, and extending equipment service life.

Industry context
As underground mining expands at established gold operations, demand is increasing for integrated equipment fleets supported by financing, digital tools, and lifecycle services. The Cowal order reflects this trend, where mine operators and contractors prioritize long-term productivity, equipment uptime, and safety performance in technically demanding underground environments.
