BMA Matches 100% Forecasted Electricity Demand with Renewable PPAs
BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has become the first Australian operation at BHP to match 100% of its forecasted electricity demand through renewable Power Purchase Agreements.

BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has achieved a major milestone by securing renewable Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) that cover 100% of its forecasted electricity demand, making it the first BHP operation in Australia to reach this benchmark.
CleanCo Agreement and Energy Portfolio
Through its latest PPA signed with Queensland’s publicly owned generator and retailer CleanCo, BMA's operational electricity demand is backed by a diversified portfolio of renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, and pumped hydro storage. A key asset underpinning the agreement is the MacIntyre Wind Farm, located southwest of Warwick, which is among Queensland’s largest renewable energy installations.
Decarbonization Targets and Emissions Strategy
The power supply agreement supports BMA's operational decarbonization strategy and directly contributes to BHP’s corporate climate commitments:
- Reducing operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2 from operated assets) by at least 30% by FY2030, benchmarked against FY2020 baseline levels.
- Achieving net-zero operational GHG emissions across its global operations by CY2050.
Regional Economic Development
Beyond emissions reduction, the renewable infrastructure projects supporting the PPA generate economic benefits across regional Queensland. The construction phases of the connected assets have generated regional employment, with ongoing operational roles continuing to support local workforce development.
